Russia is the biggest country in the world by surface area, spanning eleven time zones from coast to coast! With such a vast multicultural area, it is no surprise to hear that Russian cuisine is very diverse. As a country with often long and extreme winters, the Russian diet is traditionally based on crops that can thrive in cold climates like grains, root vegetables and cabbage. Fish (including caviar), meat and bread are also staples of Russian cuisine, and used in the preparation of many well-known delicacies.
